BUTTER RICE

BUTTER RICE

Ingredients 

25       grams of unsalted butter

1/2       tbsp vegetable oil

1          onion medium size, thinly sliced

4         grams fresh ginger, finely chopped 

3/4      tsp salt or salt to taste

400     ml of water

Cooking time - 15 mins

Butter rice is an aromatic, mild and flavourful rice dish.  A simple dish to make with butter, onions, Anchan's spice mix and one of the finest hand picked basmati rice. Butter rice can be served with any curry.

  • Rinse the rice until water runs clear. Drain the rice and set aside.

  • In a heavy bottom non-stick pan heat oil and butter, when the butter melts add Anchan's spice mix 1 and cook for 15 seconds.

  • Add sliced onion, cook stirring regularly until onions are light golden.

  • Add chopped ginger and Anchan's spice mix 2, cook for 30 seconds.

  • Add 400 ml of water, salt and rice, Mix well and bring it to a boil.

  • Turn the heat to medium, cook the rice stirring occasionally until water reduces to a level of rice in the pan.

  • Turn the heat to low, cover the pan with lid and cook for 8 minutes or until the water is absorbed.

  • Turn off the heat, with the lid on let the rice cook in its steam for further 15 minutes.

  • Gently puff up the rice with fork.

 

  • Serve with your choice of curry.
